Riots in Bethlehem – Palestine
The Israeli-Palestinian conflict: a seemingly never-ending standoff in the Middle East. In the streets of Bethlehem numerous people gather to stand their ground, and protest encroachments by the Israeli military. Their expressions are serious and concentrated: many hold small, jagged stones in their hands, crossed behind their backs, ready for conflict. Armed with slingshots and wearing gas masks for their protection, young people vent their discontent, despair, and anger. They ignite tires and throw them at their opponents, and slingshot rocks towards the Israeli soldiers. Often responding with disproportionate force, they volley back with canisters of tear gas.
